Invocation, Leander City Council Meeting October 10, 2023

Rev. Joanna was invited to give the invocation at the Leander City Council meeting on October 10. On their agenda was a recognition of Hindu Heritage Month. Below are Rev. Joanna’s invocation words:

I invite you to join me in the spirit of prayer and reflection:

Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda said “It is a privilege to serve humankind, for this is the worship of God. God is here, in all these human souls.”

Spirit of life, that we call by many names, but which calls each of us ‘beloved,’–

Thank you for all of the people here committed to service – our government leaders, educators, administrators, community ministry leaders, neighbors, and friends. May they be encouraged in their work and may they continue to inspire others to service.

As our hearts ache as we hear the news of violence and war, may we be reminded of our power here, to make this community one of respect, inclusion, and peace. May our hands and hearts serve humankind, as we put into action the highest and most loving principles of our personal religious and philosophical beliefs. May we learn from each other, grow together, set selfishness aside and see what is most noble in each person we meet.

With gratitude for the life that we share and in the name of all that is sacred, we say, Amen.
