Live Oak UU Women's Group, February 27, 2002, Farewell to Heather eventThe photo at left is of some of our members in winter 2002.

Choices for women at Live Oak looking for a group are growing all the time! If you are of the female persuasion and are looking for a group, choose one (or more) from the choices below!

The Working Women’s Group is a group of women committed to each other, but always open to new members, who come together from a sense of kinship as working women, regardless of our individual definitions of “working”. We are now meeting on the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-9:00 pm in Room 106. Our meeting location during FRED is still to be determined, so please email Melissa Martinez (melsmartinez@gmail.com) for details. The first half hour of our meeting time is set aside for informal chatting and potluck snacking, and the final two hours are for sharing. We’d love to have you join us on Tuesday, October 9!

LOUUWELLYN: Live Oak UU Women Exchanging Loves Laughs Yaps and Nourishment. No need to remember the whole name – just say you’re going to lunch with LOUUWELLYN! Join us on the second Monday of each month from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm at The Brick Oven Restaurant near the Arboretum (on Jollyville Road, just south of Braker Lane). Contact kellis@uuma.org for more information.

Girls' Night Out is a fun way to get to know other women at Live Oak, so if you're looking for a group where you can drop in and have a good time, this is it. This is an open group for women 18 and over to talk, share, have fun, and support each other. GNO meets regularly on the third Tuesday of the month. Childcare is provided, but please RSVP. Contact Nancy Decker (gndecker@psualum.com) or Sharon Fitzpatrick (sharon.fitz@sbcglobal.net) for more information about GNO.

The Women’s Labyrinth Ritual Group will be having their monthly walk the second Sunday of the month. We invite women high school age and older to join us for a ritual and labyrinth walk. We begin our meeting at 7:00pm in room 103 then out to the Labyrinth. To receive an e-mail notice of the upcoming group with information on the focus of the ritual and labyrinth walk or for more information, e-mail lindawebster@grandecom.net.

Circle of Women is a women’s confidential support group that meets monthly from September to May. We meet on the first Thursday evening of the month, beginning September 6, in Room 208. Our ingathering time begins at 7:00 pm, with group running from 7:30-9:00 pm. It is a sacred time where we come together for spiritual nourishment, to share our lives, and to learn from one another. For more information and welcoming, contact Joyce Phelps (733-0561, joycephelps@austin.rr.com).

The Wednesday Morning Women’s Spirituality Group is currently full.  Check out our group's philosophy, guidelines and meeting format to see how one of Live Oak's women's groups is structured.

Friday FLY Girls: This is a women's spirituality group exploring each member's relationship with the divine mystery. We appreciate the various ways that our spiritual connection can be realized – through reading and discussing books, engaging in experiential activities that support new awareness, and exploring other ways of accessing our inner lives. We are committed to supporting and challenging one another to explore those areas of our lives where we are stuck and where this attention could help us to create movement in our life journey. We create a safe space for deepening our connection to ourselves, one another, and the divine by using ritual and guidelines to align our actions with our intentions. The group meets the 2nd and 4th Friday mornings.  Gather at 10:15 and get children settled with caregiver; meet from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Pick up children at 12:30 pm. Friday FLY Girls is open to accepting new members. For more information about this group, please contact Patty Bissar (pbissar@yahoo.com, 335-7906).

SoulCollage® meets on the 1st and 3rd Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Please contact Doris Adams dadams102@austin.rr.com for welcoming and orientation and to learn more about the SoulCollage® group.

Past Projects

Yule Fest 2006

Our Yule Fest in 2006 was the best one yet!

A few of the many Yule Fest planners who helped make this such a great event.

Yule Fest 2005

How are we “New and Improved?

Extended area available for the Yulefest event
Increased advertising/mailings for vendors
Earlier deadlines for vendors
Increased planning time
Increased visibility/advertising to the shopping public
Organized committees within the Yulefest committee

Yule Fest 2004

YULE FEST: The Third Annual Yule Fest, benefiting CUUPs and the Wednesday morning Women’s Spirituality Group, was December 4 and 5, 2004 at the church. Thanks to all who attended--we enjoyed ourselves and helped pay for childcare expenses.

Conference

In 2003 Live Oak women hosted the Southwest District UU Women's Conference. The conference was held from February 28-March 1, 2003 at the Renaissance Arboretum hotel. Our featured speaker was Nancy Franklin, play therapist. Additional details are listed on our conference web page, so do check it out!

Wheel of the Year Project

For Spring 2002, we studied seasonal celebrations around the world, then created our own altar cloth that depicts the seasons as we experience them here in the Texas Hill Country. To learn more about the project and see our cloth, visit our Texas Wheel of the Year page.

Retreat

group shotWe held our first women's retreat on April 27-28, 2001. There were sessions on spirituality and crafts, a beautiful opening ritual, dances pampering, wonderful food, plus a wonderful hike through the property where we held the retreat. We hope to make this a regular event! Want to see some more photos? Visit our retreat photo page!
