Disaster Relief Efforts: September 3, 2005Note that the service on September 4 was changed to one on coping with disasters, by congregation member Julie Lake. In an effort to reach out to those effected by recent natural disasters, Live Oak UU will be collecting donations the next two Sundays in the Fellowship Hall for relief efforts before and after the worship service. THANK YOU -- We collected a LOT of money. - UUA Gulf Coast Relief Fund (Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief) - see the UUA President's call for help at http://www.uua.org/president/050830_katrina.html - UU Transylvania Flood Relief: To help rebuild Unitarian villages in Transylvania destroyed by flash flooding - see http://www.uua.org/news/2005/050826_transylvania/ "The UUA and the UU Partner Church Council are asking for your help because no one else is going to help our Transylvanian Unitarian community to start their lives anew, to create new hope in a time of despair. The Unitarians are an ethnic minority in their own land. The government will not help them to rebuild their lives. They need us now, and we can do this." A collection table will be set up with three containers in the Fellowship Hall for the efforts above, as follows: 1 - UUA Gulf Coast Relief Fund Donations can be made to either or both of the two funds in any proportion by using the first two containers, or one check can be written for both funds and then divided in the 90/10 proportion using the third option. If writing checks, please make checks payable to Live Oak Unitarian Church with "Disaster Relief" in the memo. Note: 100% of funds collected at the table will be distributed to the above two organizations. If you write a check, you will get credit on your end of year tax letter from Live Oak specifying that the donation was for "UUA Gulf Coast Relief Fund and/or UUA Transylvania Flood Relief". Funds received outside of this for disaster relief will automatically be split 90%/10% between the Gulf Coast and Transylvania relief efforts. Please note that this donation cannot be counted towards your 2005 pledge, as that is still needed to continue Live Oak's programs and operations for 2005. Thank you for your donations in advance. Please keep those affected by both of these disasters in your thoughts and prayers.
