Parents Advised to Filter (Or Remove) Children’s Social Media This Weekend

A message from your Director of Lifespan Faith Development and Minister:

Several reliable news outlets are reporting that parents are being highly encouraged to remove any social media that their children have access to before this weekend. Hamas is threatening to put on social media graphic videos of the atrocities they have committed or will commit. (Links to news stories about this below.)

As a church, we have operated on an overall ethic of empowering and equipping our children to deal with the realities in the world rather than attempting to shield them. But to see videos of this type of violence may do lasting harm to them. Children do not have the ability to contextualize such things. (We are not convinced adults do, either.) To be clear: we believe this is a conversation to have with your children, sharing with them why you want them to not be on social media for this period of time, and creating the solution that best fits your family.

If you have any questions, please reach out to either of us.
