Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) Meeting at Live Oak

Did you know that approximately one in four families has an immediate family member who is gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender and most people have at least one gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender member in their extended circle of friends and family?

One of the great things about PFLAG is that each of our members has gone through a unique but, as you may find, a similar experience. In fact, someone in our chapter most likely has been through much of what you are now feeling or felt when you first learned that your loved one is gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.

There are plenty of people that can talk to you and are willing to share their experience as well as provide you with support. Join us at any of our meetings on the second Tuesday of each month in the Fellowship Hall from 7:00-9:00 pm. You are also welcome to borrow books and videos from PFLAG’s bookcase located in Live Oak’s library. Please refer to our website www.pflag-austin.org or contact Dennis dennisdgreen@mac.com.

Local UU Churches at Pride Festival on June 10, 2006

We had our first ever joint effort among local UU churches at the Pride Festival this year to promote UUism as a great choice for those seeking a liberal church community. In fact, this will be our first ever presence at this festival and we need your help to staff the booth. If you volunteer for a two-hour shift at our booth, you get free entrance to the festival (up to 15 people), which offers a variety of shopping, food, and free entertainment! The festival is from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, June 10. Refer to the Pride Festival website (www.pridetexas.org/festival.php) for more information.

Welcoming Congregation Forums
Carrie Stewart and others, facilitators

Welcoming Congregation Team offered a variety of engaging, informative classes, movies and speakers to create greater awareness of GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender) issues. Offerings were in conjunction with the Tuesday evening FRED (Fellowship, Religious Education and dinner) program.

April 11, 2006:  PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will be meeting in the Common Ground from 7pm-9pm. During the first hour, a speaker from the Transgender Advocates of Central Texas (TACT) will be giving a talk. During the second hour, we will have small group discussions.  All are welcome to attend. Children who will be able to enjoy the information and discussion, accompanied by an adult are welcome! Refreshments will be available.  PFLAG will meet at Live Oak beginning in April on the second Tuesdays of each month.

February 28, 2006:  Austin PFLAG Invited Speakers and Discussion – PFLAG stands for Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. Parents from PFLAG will share their journeys of awareness, tolerance and acceptance.

March 7, 2007:  The movie Normal dealing with Transgender issues.
