The Unicorn PlayersThe Unicorn Players present Death Defying Acts – three one-act plays exploring the hilarity of death and written by three notable playwrights: David Mamet, Elaine May, and Woody Allen. Tickets are on sale NOW for this remarkable (and R rated) performance! Tickets will also be available at the door. Performances are Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22 at 7:00 pm. Contact director Nisa Sharma (zoikesmom@sbcglobal.net) for details.
Rehearsals are currently underway for Death Defying Acts, three one act plays exploring death and other adult topics, written by David Mamet, Elaine May, and Woody Allen. The actors are tirelessly and strenuously studying their lines to commit them to memory, as many actors have more than one part, and one actor has almost six pages of monologue! It’s all fun and games, though, under the directorship of Nisa Sharma. Watch for tickets to go on sale later this month for the mid-October, R rated, performance.
That beacon of light shining in the NW corner of the parking lot is the Performing Arts Room, half of the “other” portable building. Recently, a group of actors, clowns, and roustabouts got together to tear down the walls, making a beautiful square space for rehearsing, practicing, and playing! Alls we need now is a coat of paint!
Big thanks (huge, really) go to Bryan Powell, who captained our effort, Rebecca Maze, the Stewart-Dittmars, the Porter-Sharmas, the Fords, the Coldirons, Nathan Ryan, and Jon Montgomery. And thanks to Mother Nature for the rain!

Our next performance is Death Defying Acts, three one-act comedies by Woody Allen, David Mamet, and Elaine May. Auditions will be held in the form of a reading on Tuesday, August 2, and Tuesday, August 9, at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts room (see above).
Our next general meeting is Tuesday, August 9, at 7:00 pm. We will read some of the play and cover any necessary business.

Paradox
Players to Perform at Live OakApril 30 and May 1 is the opening weekend for Love on Ice, an evening of two short romantic comedies brought to the Live Oak stage by the Paradox Players of First UU Church of Austin. As a four-year old theater company, Paradox Players has adopted the custom of donating one half of the net revenue from ticket sales to its hosting church. So treat yourself to fine theater while treating your church to a fine bank balance! Recommended for ages 14 and older.
Love on Ice is a premiere of two plays written by First UU Church member, and prize-winning playwright, Paullette MacDougal. The first, Hook, Line, and Sinker, is a romantic comedy about a marriage proposal attempted while the couple is ice fishing … but the fish gets possession of the diamond ring! The second, Head Over Heels, tells the story of Izzy, a young woman who tries to decide whether or not to accept her boyfriend’s proposal during a frustrating day of snowboarding in the mountains. This play features Deneen Frazier, a UU actress who received a B. Iden Payne Nomination in 2002/2003 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for her role as Annie Lou Holsum in Waiting for MacArthur, a play also written by Paullette.
Tickets are $10, payable at the door. Visit www.paradoxplayers.org for more details, or to make reservations.
