New Spirituality Discussion GroupMarch 2005New Spirituality Discussion Group The New Spirituality Discussion Group meets every Thursday at 7:00 pm in Room 204. What’s New Spirituality, you ask? Here’s a definition from the Humanity’s Team website, www.humanitysteam.org. (Humanity’s Team seeks to promote a “New Spirituality” in the world as a means of bringing out peace, harmony, and justice, as they believe that all problems are, at their root, spiritual problems.) “The New Spirituality … is not a new religion. Nor is it a rejection or abandonment of present spiritual beliefs. It’s simply an expansion of all our present theologies, an updating of them, a refreshing of them, rendering all of our current sacred teachings even more relevant to our present day and time … “The New Spirituality empowers each of us to find our own unique way. It offers equality. It is diverse, appreciating the full spectrum of wisdom traditions. It honors that many paths lead to the mountaintop … “The New Spirituality focuses more on a patient process of inner transformation than on a rote enactment of prescribed do’s and don’ts. It declares that we are all free to express our natural impulses to seek and experience the divine without anyone making anyone else wrong for the way in which we do it. It encourages spiritual truths to be made real, in the flesh of daily life, and not just spoken about once a week from a pulpit.” One of the leaders of the New Spirituality movement is Neale Donald Walsch, author of the Conversations with God series of books, and founder of Humanity’s Team. We are currently reading Conversations with God, Book 1. Drop by and eavesdrop on this fascinating conversation that has inspired millions of people around the globe to rethink their spiritual beliefs and recreate their lives anew. Not to worry, there’s going to be two encore presentations on Tues. Feb. 22,
and Sunday Feb. 27, both shows starting at 7:00pm in the Sanctuary of
Live Oak. As before, the price is $10 per person, with 50% of the sales going to
Live Oak. So come out and support Spiritual Cinema AND your favorite church! New Spirituality Discussion GroupEvery Thursday the New Spirituality Discussion Group will meet at the church at 7:00pm in Room 204 (upstairs). This is an open group - you can drop in (or out) any Thursday you wish. And it's open to the community, so feel free to forward this email to whomever you think might be interested. We're currently reading aloud from Conversations with God, Book 1, and discussing the spiritual concepts as they come up. No need to bring the book if you don't want to or don't have it. Just come and enjoy eavesdropping on this fascinating "conversation" that has inspired millions around the globe to re-think, or perhaps think through for the first time, what they believe about God, Life, Death, Good, Evil, Truth, Love, Sex, Money, etc., then use those beliefs to recreate their lives anew. First-timers try to arrive at 7:00 so we can do a quick intro of the material and get you caught up on some of the key concepts covered so far. Those who have been attending fairly regularly, can arrive closer to 7:30, when we will start reading and discussing from where we left off the previous week. We end about 9:00. January 2005Live Oak to Host a World Premiere Showing of IndigoCome join us at the world-wide premiere of the film Indigo, starring Neale Donald Walsch, and produced by Stephen Simon, who did What Dreams May Come starring Robin Williams, and Somewhere in Time starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. We will be showing the film in the sanctuary on Saturday, January 29, beginning at 7:00 pm. This is an independent film about a special “indigo” child (children of exceptional spiritual maturity and with other gifts, including psychic abilities and healing powers, that some believe represent an evolution in the human species) who helps her down-and-out grandfather (played by Walsch, author of the Conversations with God book series and a central figure in the New Thought/New Spirituality Movement) in unexpected ways as he tries to protect her from a kidnapper. There will be an informal discussion of the movie afterwards and plans to start an on-going New Spirituality Book Study Group will be announced. The film is part of the “Spiritual Cinema” genre and is up-lifting and heart-warming. There will be a charge of $10 per ticket, 50% of which Live Oak gets to keep, so this is a fundraising event, as well. For more information, go to www.indigothemovie.com, or contact Glenn McIntosh (mgmcintosh@earthlink.net). More announcements, including the showing of a DVD trailer will be upcoming. |
