Music Committee News 1999-20012001No committee news was in the newsletter during 2001. See if something is listed on the choir pages. November 2000Do you want to sing in the choir? There are vacancies yet to be filled! No auditions required! Some experience reading music is helpful. Like most church choirs, we have a definite need for more tenors, but all are welcome. Just show up Wednesday night at 8:00 ready to work. At 9:00 we eat cookies! What could be better? The music committee is also looking for new members. We need people who appreciate music and have an interest the role music plays in our church. The music committee meets as needed at this point, once every 2 months or so. Contact the Nesheims or Rebecca Maze at 266-2246. Spring 2000MUSIC COMMITTEE SURVEY RESULTSThanks to everyone who participated in the survey handed out at a recent service by the Music Committee. We had a total of 37 respondents. Here are the results, which Rebecca and the music committee will use when planning music for future services.
November 1999PIANO FUND NEWSOur piano fund has received a boost of $350, thanks to our own Live Oak folk trio, TREY BONE, who gave us a very enjoyable concert recently. Sue Ann Kendall, Austin Kessler, and Bill Dower have been practicing religiously for 6 months, and it shows! What a nicely selected and well-prepared program. Thank you to all who attended as well as those who couldn't but contributed to the fund anyway- that makes all the work worthwhile. Some of you, especially those less musically inclined, may be wondering, "Why do we need a new piano anyway? We HAVE a piano." Well, you are right. We have a piano that is appropriate for our size, our building space, and for our needs in a typical service such as we present. A five or seven foot grand would stick out a little bit in our church I think (although we could probably get used to it). Imagine though, one day we will have a big new church filled with people, and a 30 voice choir! Our little piano would not be adequate in that situation- the sound wouldn't carry. If we want to provide a place for musicians to give concerts in, we have to have a good piano. No one will want to come perform on an upright. A used grand piano costs a lot of money. Thousands and thousands of dollars. We have a lot of benefit concerts to give, for years to come! Anyone with 45 or more minutes of music to perform is officially invited to give a 2:00 Sun. recital! Talk to me --Rebecca Maze Choir!Choir is still looking for new members of any kind! You just need to carry a tune and have a little experience with reading music somewhere down the line. Please call Rebecca Maze, or show up and surprise us at any Wed. 8PM rehearsal. |
