"WHAT WILL UU DO WITH JESUS?”To follow up on the sermon Chuck and Janelle Curlin-Taylor presented last month, we will have a four-week discussion series. All sessions will meet in the Live Oak sanctuary from 2–4 pm. Sunday afternoons, Feb. 16-March 9. Chuck Freeman and James Hamilton will be facilitating. Here are our topics of presentation/discussion: Week 1—Historical roots and contemporary expressions of Christianity in our UU movement. Your past and present experiences with Christianity, pretty and ugly. Week 2—The current theological diversity in the Christian Church. Definitions of a "Christian." Fundamentalism is only one expression of this name. Balancing the church as a place to vent/critique expressions of Christianity with acceptance and inclusion of Christians in our community, while not ostracizing those inspired by this faith tradition. Week 3—The appropriate use of humor in relation to Christianity. Themes not addressed in weeks one and two, and/or follow up issues. Week 4—What are our resolves to create a church which appreciates and welcomes UU's enlivened by Jesus' teachings? This is a vital matter in living our faith. Bring your energy and good intentions! Soulfully, Chuck Freeman |
