Hands on Housing restores and makes livable the homes of impoverished or handicapped homeowners who otherwise would have to move and who often have nowhere else to move. Alberta Grady is a 73-year-old widow who is being pressured by real estate speculators to sell her home for their gentrification projects. They are not offering her enough to realistically move, and she wants to spend the rest of her days among family and friends in her neighborhood on East 16th Street. We will be scraping and painting, doing yard work, patching holes, and plumbing. There is something for everyone! There will be a project for children, who must be accompanied by a parent or an assigned responsible adult. All skill levels are welcome. If you can’t do physical labor, we need greeters, people to run errands, take pictures, and be cheerleaders. Sign up in the Fellowship Hall after church. Last time, we had over 100 participants from Live Oak and other UU churches in the area. Join us in our fall community outreach project, Hands on Housing.
