Green Team News

October 2005
We are working on getting our property certified as a
Wildlife Habitat. Connected with that, we will try to create a wildflower meadow
between the two entrances to our parking lot. It has occurred to me that there
is a certain amount of foot traffic on that spot. It would be useful if we could
plant some stepping stones along the edge.
Does anyone have stepping stones that are not needed and
could be donated? They would not have to be pretty, just something to get people
to walk on. If you can help, contact me at 918-3276.

With spring here we are looking forward to many colorful
flowers, so there will be more active work in our front yard again. Anyone not
yet on the email list who would like to help maintain the garden, please call
Hella Holoubek at 918-3276.
Since we have been so successful with attracting
butterflies, we have plans to apply for Backyard Wildlife Habitat Certification.
To do this we would need to provide a water source for the animals. Does anyone
have a bird bath that is not needed any more that could be donated to the church
garden? We would like to hear from you!
October 2004
Our garden has come through the summer with flying colors,
thanks to a lot of rain, mild temperatures, and a lot of hard work by many
volunteers. This is, of course, a never-ending effort. We are always in need of
volunteers, and I want to extend a warm welcome to anyone new to Live Oak to
join our team. If you are an experienced gardener, or if you just have a desire
to learn how to make things grow, we have a place for you. It does not take a
set amount of time; we are very flexible.
Talk to Hella or call 918-3276 if you would like to get
involved. There are clean-up chores coming up, some transplanting jobs to do,
and soon we will be preparing for spring.
Hella had some adventures during the summer, so the column took a break! We
are glad to have her back.

Look at our garden! There are plants growing there and even starting to bloom.
Many thanks to all who have contributed plants or labor. It is not too late to
join the team. We have a continuing need for helping hands. Gardening is fun and
a healthy exercise. Hella Holoubek
Ferbuary 2004
It has
not been an easy month for gardening, with all the rain and snow, but we are
moving along. Take a look on either side of our front door to see whether
anything is growing yet. Is gardening your thing? Do you have a green thumb, or
would you like to develop one? We want you for our group; come and join us.

GREEN TEAM Gearing Up! We will really get started on our landscaping
project this month. We want to take out the grass on either side of the
northwest entrance, bring in compost to improve the soil, and start planting. If
you have been saving plants for us in your garden, we may want them soon. If you
are able to come and help us with the work, we will want you even sooner. If you
are just the slightest bit interested, come and watch us. Work days will be
announced. For questions or offers of tools or supplies, please call Hella
Holoubek at 918-3276.
