WHICH EMAIL LIST SHOULD I USE?
As you can see from the partial list of Live Oak email lists, there are
many opportunities at Live Oak to communicate electronically. Along with
the email lists of many committees and focus groups, there are four
church-wide email lists. It's not always obvious which to use for what
kinds of messages.
liveoakuu-announce
is the list to use for church-wide announcements. These can be announcements
for activities and events sponsored by the church, sponsored by a
committee of the church, or by affiliated groups of the church such as
UUA, SWUUC or AIM. This is also for church-wide activities such as
memorial services. This is
not the list to use for
announcements of non-church community events or activities, or for any
replies or discussion.
liveoakuu-announce
is pre-moderated by the Electronic Communications Committee. What this
means is that any message sent to this list is looked at by a human
moderator to make sure it meets the above guidelines before it is send out
to the distribution list. Therefore, there will probably be a delay
between when you sent a message and when it is sent out. Plan your last
minute announcements accordingly!
liveoakuu-business
is the list to use for discussions about church business. Committees are
encouraged to post their meeting minutes here. Any information (including
dialogue, discussion, brainstorming) about upcoming church proposals would
be appropriate here, though committees with proposals involving complex or
sensitive issues may choose other avenues of communication with the
congregation that are more appropriate.
liveoakuu-newsletter
is used to send out the monthly newsletter in PDF format to subscribers of
the electronic version. It does not accept postings from subscribers.
liveoakuu-chat
is the list to use for any other message that doesn't fall into the above
categories. This might include theological or philosophical discussions,
discussions about current events or politics, or anything you might hear
people talking about during coffee hour. Announcements of non-church
events (like a lecture at UT, or a party given by a church member) would
go here. Links to news stories or articles of interest would go here.
liveoakuu-chat
is not pre-moderated and is basically an "open forum", though participants
are expected to treat each other respectfully.
