LIVE OAK DANCE GROUPAugust 2005Dancing at Live Oak! Come to the first official dance on Live Oak’s new dance floor, Saturday, August 27, 7:30-11:00 pm in Common Ground. Bring your favorite “family friendly” dance CDs and come ready to have fun! Bring a simple snack (finger food, preferably) to share. This is an event for adults, teens, and kids (kids will need to be supervised, especially outside of the Common Ground building). The Clickety Cloggers, who donated the dance floor, will give a little performance and we hope there will be some short teaching sessions of different dances. Contact Ann McCracken at ann@mccr.org if you want to assist with dance instructions or help in any other way to make this a really fun event. February 2003February 21, at 8pm Jo Soto and Bruce Bostwick will present a class in International folk dancing. The class will feature many countries, with focus on dance as village ritual. Dance has been a part of village life and the passing of the seasons for thousands of years. Modern choreographers have built on these age-old rituals and added modern innovations resulting in a blend of harmony and history that is rooted in the ancient dances. There is no cost, and you do not need a partner to come and dance! January 2003After
the success of our first Sufi Dancing evening in November,
the church dance group would like to try having people come and lead some
sort of group dancing event once
each month.
We have elected the third Fri. for that purpose, but this may have to be
adjusted when coffee house needs that week. We hope to include as many styles as
we can, but we are not offering a fee of any kind, at this point. One
of the dance leaders who came in November, Parvati, has accepted an invitation
to come on the third Friday of January (the 17th). She will lead dances from
many traditions, including Native American and Goddess dances and chants. There
were quite a few non-church members there in November, and it was fun to meet
the new people. We look forward to doing it again!
Hope you can come! September 2001All of you who may be interested in dancing with us this month are welcome to drop in on the later side of 8:00 on Fri., September 21st-this will be our only meeting in September, so let's all be there! Any new people with questions may call Rebecca Maze at 266-2246. April 2001This question has arisen enough times to warrant another item in the newsletter! It is an informal gathering of people who enjoy dancing and exercising in a non-regimental way. Everyone brings a CD or two, of any kind of music that they like moving to. The only time we all do the same thing is during our warm-up, and at the end, if someone has some floor exercises or yoga that they would like to do. For warm up, we do some slow movements to get the circulation going, then stretch body parts from the neck down. One person might start the warm-up, and as other people remember things they used to do in their old ballet or jazzercise, etc., class, they take over, so usually everyone ends up adding something. Then somebody puts on a CD and we just dance around! It was fun to have a baby there once, who really seemed to enjoy the novelty of all the big people moving around in an unusual way! Kids are welcome also. A lot of talking goes on while we manage to keep moving. After about 45 or 50 minutes of this, we do a few floor exercises and stretch out. It would be a good idea to call Mary Pritchard each week to make sure we are meeting. We have been doing it every Fri. night at 8:00 at church, except on Coffee House nights. If the people with the keys can not come, that would be an important thing for other people to know before they drive to church! So all prospective "shakers", make sure to ask Mary! |
