Warrior's Journey Home
Military Veterans Find Difficulty Transitioning to Civilian Life
Warriors Journey Home Circle of Central Texas meets at Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Church on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
Based on the traditions of our indigenous ancestors the Warriors Journey Home Circle is a non-political, non-sectarian and non-partisan group of veterans and civilians with a compassion for our military and military families. The program recognizes that everyone has a "war story" to tell. War is experienced directly by the combatants who engage and civilians who are directly and indirectly impacted. The motto of the program is "Listen, Speak, Heal."
Group meetings hosted by the Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Church of Cedar Park are the heart of the program. A "Warrior's Council" meeting will be held on the third Wednesday of each month. The Council provides a safe forum where warriors can reclaim their voice. The meeting is open to veterans of all conflicts, "those who wait" and civilians. The politics of the conflict are not discussed and there is no theological debate of just and unjust conflicts.
Through Council, veterans identify and travel the "Warrior's Path." The warrior's path is a life-long journey seeking positive changes in lifestyle. The warrior's path is disciplined, caring, honorable, courageous, sacrificial, and distinguished. Veterans returning from active duty need the initiatory experience of transition from veteran to warrior and from the military to civilian life.
"A personal war story is always about everyone who participated in the war, as well as family members, their friends, and their communities. Veterans most often withhold their stories. And without telling their stories veterans cannot truly become warriors." Tick, Edward (2005). War and the Soul
