Water imagery flows through sacred literature of all faiths. We feel the power of its metaphors of cleansing and renewal, of life-giving nourishment, of empowering movement, of buoying strength. Money, on the other hand, usually gets the bum's rush, metaphorically speaking: it is an agent of disharmony, of selfishness and betrayal, of hoarding and harshness, of callousness and corruption. But what happens in our thinking and actions if we see that money is like water? Is it possible that filthy lucre can be reclaimed for spiritual purposes—that instead of soiling our souls, money can wash us clean and bright as a new penny?
