November 2003Advent ServicesThe Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship will sponsor a series of Advent services over the next four Sundays at 9:15 am in the Live Oak UU Church sanctuary--November 30, December 7, December 14, and December 21. All are invited to join us in celebrating the spiritual side of the Christmas season and the hope, peace, joy, and love we all desire to manifest in our lives and communities. Children are welcome. This is a reminder about the First Sunday of Advent Service this Sunday
(November 30) at This is a great opportunity to participate in a joyous Christmas experience,
one that focuses on the birth of Jesus and the message of peace and love that he
brought us. Bring your children and show them that there is a spiritual side to
Christmas, one with a much deeper and more meaningful message than just getting
lots of presents. This is the definitive antidote for frenzied mall shopping, plastic manger
scenes, and blaring Christmas muzak! We have several opportunities to participate in this Sunday’s service. We
need several readers, someone to lead the carol singing, and ten children who
can do simple readings and candle lighting. Please let Roger (roger@objectwatch.com)
know if you (or your children) are willing to help us
by participating. This service is organized by the Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship,
Austin Chapter UU
CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP The
UU Christian Fellowship, Austin Chapter, will sponsor a presentation and
discussion in the Fellowship Hall of the church on Saturday, November 8, at 10
am, facilitated by the Rev. Ron Robinson, Executive Director of the national
UUCF. The subject will be “UU Christianity 101” and will include an
introduction to the UUCF and a discussion of the meaning of UU Christianity and
what it means to be a UU Christian. All are invited. Then, at 9 am, Sunday, November 9, Rev. Robinson will lead a brief communion service in the sanctuary. This worship service will also be sponsored by the UUCF Austin Chapter and is open to all. Children are welcome. October 2003 The Unitarian Universalist Christian
Fellowship, Austin Chapter, met Saturday, September 20, at the home of James and
Bobbie Hamilton, shortly after some of us had attended the Psalms worship
service at the church led by Rabbi Monty Eliasov. After saying grace, we enjoyed
a hearty lunch and much conversation and attended to a few items of business
(many thanks to Bobbie Hamilton for much of the lunch preparation). It was
announced that the Reverend Ron Robinson, Executive Director of the national UU
Christian Fellowship and founder of Epiphany of Owasso, a UU Christian church in
the Tulsa area, will deliver the sermon at Live Oak on November 9. Preliminary
plans were discussed for assisting with the service and scheduling other events
that weekend featuring Ron’s leadership and facilitation. In addition, a
series of four Advent services was scheduled for Sunday evenings in December and
a three-person worship committee was appointed to begin planning. An executive
committee for the local chapter was also appointed, including Juanita Moshier,
treasurer, Janet Van Sickler, secretary, and James Hamilton, president. We were
reminded that for every new member in the Austin area who joins the national
UUCF, the Austin Chapter gets a $10 rebate. The national organization’s
website is www.uua.org/uucf/
and the local site is groups.yahoo.com/group/LiveOakUUChristian,
where non-members can view links to other UU Christian and liberal Christian
websites. The meeting closed with prayer. Our next meeting, time and place to be announced, will be dedicated to a discussion of the meaning of UU Christianity and what it means to be a UU Christian.
