Choosing Love: A Weekend Couples Retreat

Wimberley, Texas

October 15 & 16, 2005

This weekend retreat is for couples who want to improve the quality of their relationship by focusing some attention on choosing love. The workshop is for couples who may be experiencing difficulties, as well as for couples who are doing just fine. As we will soon officially be a Welcoming Congregation, we want to state clearly that we welcome couples from the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community!

So much of the romantic myth of love has love happening to us; we “fall in love”, we “fall out of love”, but lasting relationships depend on intentionality. This weekend workshop will focus on consciously (intentionally) creating a loving relationship. We will discuss the restraining forces that inhibit intentional loving and on the sustaining forces that support intentional loving. The workshop will be experiential as well as tutorial and will be supportive of participants’ privacy and their desired level of participation.

James Maxwell, LPC, will lead this workshop. Jim has vast experience and training in the field of relationship counseling and education and became well known to many men in our church after leading the Men’s Weekend Retreat in 2002. You can find out more about Jim and the work he does at www.healing-relationships.com.

Cost is $250 ($200 for tuition + $50 for food) per couple. This amount will cover costs for the minimum number of participants (six couples). We can accommodate as many as eight or nine couples. If we have more than six couples who register, the cost could be less and/or scholarships may be possible.

Registration deadline is Sunday, October 2, 2005. A deposit of $100 is due upon registration. Final payment will be due on or before October 9. You will be notified of the final cost after October 2, but the final cost will not be more than $250.00.

We are pleased to announce that Monica and Craig Fredlund have agreed to cater this event. We all know that means we will be eating well! Please plan to pitch in and help with set up and clean up. Meals provided will be breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. We will have a wine and cheese welcoming reception on Friday night, but dinner that night is on your own.

The Carloye/Huntingtons are donating this space for our use this weekend! We are VERY GRATEFUL! This is a family ranch setting and will have a communal feel and limited privacy. Rooms will be available upon registration, so the sooner you register, the better choice of rooms you’ll have.

Questions? Registration form? Contact Mary McIntosh (mcmcintosh@earthlink.net, 350-1118).
