October 1999We will discuss the novel Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich Love Medicine is an authentic and emotionally powerful glimpse into the Native American experience. Please join us at 7:30 PM in the church sanctuary. . August 1999There is no August meeting. Memoirs of a Geisha is Arthur Golden's first novel. In it he describes the rigorous training a geisha (the word means artist in Japanese) under goes in order to become a play thing of the wealthy business men of Japan. We will discuss the novel Thursday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 PM in the church sanctuary. For details, please phone Wendy Clark. May 1999Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt is the May book group selection. The novel recounts McCourt's childhood in Ireland. As McCourt writes in the book, "Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood". This engaging memoir will be discussed Thursday, May 20 at 7:30PM. We will meet in the RE area so that the Coffeehouse can set-up for their show on Friday. For more info., please call Wendy Clark. March 1999We will discuss The Wedding by Dorothy West when we meet March 18 at 7:30 PM in the church sanctuary. In her first novel in forty-seven years, West describes the life of middle-class African Americans in the 1950s.
