Book Group Information From 2005December 2005Our next meeting will be December 13 at 7:15 pm at the home of Hella Holoubek. We will be discussing Janice Woods Windle’s Will’s War. This is a fictional piece of Texas history, based on records of the trial of Windle’s grandfather. This book is available from the Austin library in multiple copies. Everyone is welcome to attend. Call Hella at 918-3276 for directions. November 2005Our next meeting will be Tuesday, November 8, at 7:15 pm at the house of John Alligood. Since we had to cancel the October meeting, we have not selected a new book, but will talk about Perri Klass’s Other Women’s Children. This will give everyone a chance to actually read the book! We have chosen Other Women’s Children by Perri Klass as our text. It is a story of a pediatrician and some of her patients and their influence on her private life. Everyone is welcome. Call John (249-0313) if you need directions. (Editor’s note: Perri Klass is also a knitter and an author of knitting books.) Looking ahead, for November we will read Janice Woods Windle’s Will’s War. We will talk about Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamotte. We will also select books for the next few months, so bring your ideas. We are reading The Genesis Code by John Case. A suspense thriller, mixing science and faith, it is the perfect summer read! Call Audrey at 918-0107 for directions. Come join us! June 2005Our book for June is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. It is about two boys raised together but at the opposite ends of the social structure. We will meet June 14 at 7:15 at the home of Leslie Cunningham. All are welcome. Call Leslie at 470-8485 for directions. Looking ahead, in July we will read The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle. It concerns the disparities of two families in California, one affluent and one illegal immigrants. April 2005The Live Oak Book Group will meet April 12 at 7:15 at the home of Joyce and John Phelps in Round Rock. Our text is Atticus by Ron Hansen. Hope to see many of you. Need directions? Call 733-0561. February 2005The Live Oak Book Group will meet on February 8 at 7:15 at the home of Joyce Phelps. Our book is Katharine Graham’s Personal History. This is a fascinating history of one of the most famous and admired women of the 20th century and of her newspaper, The Washington Post. It should be a great discussion. This is quite close to the church. You can call John at 249-0313 for directions. The book of the month is Last Chance to See by Douglas Adams and Mark Carwardine. It is a book about their travels around the globe in search of exotic, endangered creatures. This makes interesting reading. Hope to see many of you. |
