June 2004

We have decided on our chosen books for the next few months. In June we will talk about The Spectator Bird by Wallace Stegner. Stegner has been a very popular author with our group, and this book is most interesting.

We are meeting on June 8, at 7:15 pm at the home of Tammy Duhaime. For directions, please call Tammy at 248-0119. All are welcome.

If you want to plan ahead, for July we have chosen One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, for August Small Wonder by Barbara Kingsolver, and for September The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers.

May 2004

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, May 11, at 7:15 at the house of Tara de Cardenas. Our text will be The Trouble With Islam by Irshad Manji. This is quite informative and not very difficult to read. It is by no means a comprehensive treatment of this complex religion.

Everyone is welcome. Call Tara at 239-8179 for directions.

April 2004

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 13, at 7:15 pm at the house of Tara de Cardenas. We are reading Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code. This thriller has received much attention; come and find out whether this is justified. All are welcome. We will also plan the books for the next few months; please bring some suggestions. Call Tara at 238-8179 if you need directions.

February 2004

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at 7:15 pm at the house of Tara de Cardenas. We have chosen John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath. It is well worth rereading this surprisingly current novel.

If you want to plan ahead, in April we will talk about The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

All are welcome. Call Tara for directions: 238-8179.

January 2004

The Live Oak Book Group will meet on Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at the home of Joyce Phelps. Our text is The Buffalo Soldier by Chris Bohjalian, the story of a family in a crisis situation. Like a previous book by the same author, this one is very good. Come and join us at 7:15. Call Joyce for address/directions at 733-0561.
