Being a Community Partner with BAGA

On April 20th, along with Live Oak Board member Mark Anderson and Administrator Diane Stepakof-Fay, I attended the Bangladesh Association of Greater Austin (BAGA) Pohela Boishakh (Bengali New Year) festival at Fiesta Gardens. There, Live Oak was presented with their 2019 Community Partnership Award “for its contribution to BAGA and other charitable, social, and cultural contributions to society.”

You’ve probably seen many people and groups in the Bengali community when they’ve had an event at Live Oak. Most recently, we hosted the Bangladesh Consulate, when 200 people came to update passports and visas. The award was presented to us by Jimmy Flannigan, Austin City councilmember for District 6.

I was thrilled to be there. We have been so blessed to have this gorgeous building and property, and Live Oak uses it to further our mission of “Enriching Connections” with the larger community. When they presented the award, BAGA Board member Nizam Uddin talked about how everyone there knew Live Oak, because so many recitals and events happen here – and there was a great cheer of applause!

It’s great to be a part of Empowering Dreams for other organizations … and it was a lot of fun getting a taste of OUR dream to be known out in the community.
