The Adult
Programming (AP) Committee coordinates adult classes, workshops, events and
ongoing activities for adults at the church. The AP Committee must include the
Minister of Spiritual Life, the Minister of Congregational Life and the DRE and
is otherwise open for membership.
Guidelines, Criteria and
Process for Approval of New Offerings
a.
Parties interested in providing a new class, workshop, group,
presentation or some other happening are invited to the next scheduled
Adult Programming (AP) meeting to share the idea for a new AP offering
for consideration by the committee. If a teacher, leader or facilitator
known by the committee makes a proposal, and the teacher, leader or
facilitator has applicable experience, then a decision may be made
regarding the proposal via e-mail or phone. The AP Committee approves or
disapproves of a proposal utilizing predetermined criteria. Any
substantive changes to an existing offering must also be reported to the
committee.
b.
Criteria for approval of proposed adult offerings:
 |
The
primary purpose of the offering is to 'give back' to the church community.
|
 |
Some
experience or training with the subject matter in relation to the material to be
presented is required. For example: If no curriculum is being used, then the
presenter must have some degree of content expertise in order to teach, lead or
facilitate a class or group; if an established curriculum is being used, less
experience with the subject matter may be necessary.
|
 |
Some
experience teaching, leading or facilitating may be required.
|
 |
If the
offering being proposed entails any physical or emotional risk taking on the
part of participants, then at least one of the teachers, leaders or facilitators
must have established experience in that capacity. Pairing a more experienced
teacher, leader or facilitator with a potential teacher, leader or facilitator
with less experience, but who is motivated to learn, will be encouraged.
|
c.
Once the offering is approved, the teacher, leader or facilitator must
work through the LOUU Church Administrator (Audrey Jensen) to arrange a
time and place for the event:

d.
At least 1 month in advance, you should begin to let folks know
about the class. Here are ways to announce the class:
 |
Send an e-mail with all the
details to the Live Oak announce list. If you are not on the announce list and
want to get on, please see
http://www.liveoakuu.org/email.html for more info. Mary or another member of the Adult Programming Committee can
put an announcement on it for you if you do not want to get on the list.
|
 |
Put an
announcement in the order of service for a few weeks before the first class.
Send all announcements to Diane,
editor@liveoakuu.org or leave in the
Newsletter Editor box in Room 103, by Thursday at 5 PM.
|
Announcement Guidelines:
 |
keep
your announcements to one to three sentences. Any announcement longer than 3
sentences will be edited for length.
|
 |
include
contact information, a phone number and/or an email address
|
 |
indicate
that this is an Announcement for the Order of Service when you send
it to Diane.
|
 |
Write an
article for the newsletter. The announcement in the order of service can be a
reminder to check the newsletter for the details. Send all newletter articles
to Diane,
editor@liveoakuu.org or leave in the
Newsletter Editor box in Room 103. Check with Diane about the deadlines for the
newsletter. It can be as early as the 20th of the month!
|
 |
Make a
poster with class details, contact info and maybe even a sign-up sheet.
|
 |
Finally, send a paragraph
describing the class and when and where it meets to the committee as soon as it
is scheduled so we can add it to the Adult Programming master list.
