Aesthetics CommitteeOctober 2005The Aesthetics Committee is looking for a few good people, especially this month. Our small group needs creative talent, skilled painters (for rooms, not paintings), shoppers, and at least 10 hours a month at church to help complete our current tasks. Our larger, ongoing projects include painting several rooms in time for the Southwestern UU Fall Leadership Conference in early November, raising funds for a lovely chalice and other furnishings, researching the aesthetics/functions of a room, decorating the church for holidays, and coordinating efforts with the Art Gallery. Help with any one or more of these projects is most wanted and appreciated. Please contact Siboné Gardner (785-5181, siboney@austin.rr.com). We would also like to thank all the generous donations of time and money for the luncheon last month. Thank you for the delicious side dishes, meals, and desserts. Thanks to all who pitched in and graciously helped with moving tables, cleaning, and washing every last dish. We appreciate our lovely Live Oak family. Siboné Gardner, Aesthetics Committee Chair December 2004Aesthetics Committee Gets Busy!Take a look around and see what’s looking spruced up at Live Oak. There is new paint in some of the RE classrooms, the church office, the nursery wing hallway, the upstairs men’s bathroom, and a remarkable transformation in Room 103. Artwork is also starting to adorn more walls. So, what’s going on around here? The Aesthetics Committee is busy at work trying to make our space warm, inviting, beautiful, and uniquely our own! What is the purpose of the Aesthetics Committee? It was formed by a Steering Committee proposal in May of this year with the task of developing and implementing a design plan for the sanctuary in conjunction with the Worship Committee. Additionally the committee is responsible for decorating public spaces in the building, developing and overseeing the management of an art gallery in the Fellowship Hall, and assessing the usefulness and desirability of artwork or furnishings donated to the church for aesthetic purposes. How is the committee funded? We were allocated a small portion of funds donated to the Growth Fund Campaign. Have an aesthetics concern or idea? The following are the members of the Aesthetics Committee: Siboné Gardner (chair), Tere Kaulfus, Sue Ann Kendall, Leah Korn, Rebecca Maze, and Diane Schultz. Please feel free to speak to any of them about any questions you may have or send an email to Siboné at siboney@austin.rr.com and your input will be added to the agenda of our next meeting. What is next on the agenda? The committee continues to work on a plan for the sanctuary stage area, though we are proceeding slowly and thoughtfully since this is such a crucial area of our building. We will continue hanging artwork and painting areas that need some new color as time and the energy of committee members permits. We hope you’re enjoying the changes! |
