From
Our New Ministerial Intern, Aaron White
It didn’t take me long to figure out what I wanted to say first to the
community at Live Oak. One phrase came up over and over again that pretty much
sums everything up — thank you!
I am incredibly excited to be entering this part of my ministerial training
with such a welcoming, lively, and fun congregation!
A little bit about me: I was born and raised in Texas near Dallas, and I
attended Austin College in Sherman, where I luckily met both Unitarian
Universalism and my then wife-to-be, Kate. While in college I began attending
Red River UU Church in Denison, where I got the itch to continue future study in
religion and training in Unitarian Universalist ministry.
In 2004, Kate and I moved to Boston, where I attended Harvard Divinity
School. I gained invaluable experience serving Arlington Street Church in Boston
as Coordinator of Children’s Religious Education and participating in the
Massachusetts Bay District’s Music and Worship Arts Committee.
In June I graduated from divinity school and Kate and I began our whirlwind
summer. We moved cross-country back to Texas, settled in Austin, and were
married, all within six weeks! It has definitely been a time of much transition
for us.
This is to say that I am especially appreciative of Live Oak’s own transition
in becoming a teaching congregation, guiding me and future interns as we prepare
for ministry. During my time here, I will focus on worship, adult programming
and RE, Denominational Outreach, and the “nuts and bolts” of maintaining a
healthy church community. If you’d like to find out more about me or my
interests here, please come introduce yourself at church any time, or let’s meet
up for coffee.
Thank you again, and I’m looking forward to a great year ahead!
